Finished and painted! My scratchbuilt 1/60 scale Grey Death Thanatos.
Again started with the paper plans by Blaar to get the size and proportions right but then I deviated as I do to arrive at something more to my liking. Plus with so many different artists interpretations of the mech its hard to select just one version to do. I always end up picking the bits and pieces that I like to get the final piece.

Locust master pretty much ready
As you all know the results of the vote were mostly in favour of the Locust for the next kit I run.
So I wanted to make sure I had it all ready the way I wanted it. I ended up beefing it up slightly.
My original was basically built pretty much the same way Marc Yungblut built his over a decade ago, And this stood only about 4.5 inches tall. In my mind thats too small for a 1/60 kit. As a 20 ton mech I think it should stand about waist high to the Atlas. Not its groin.
So Ive thickened it, lengthened the legs, enlarged the feet and made the srm pods bigger.
As you can see from the pics its now about 6.5 inches tall and a little easier to cast and assemble.
If you'd like one please email me at scott.murphy@telus.net.
Im trying to get an idea of how large a run i need to do.
And I dont have a final price yet but Im hoping the $50 buck range will be do-able.

Mechs for sale.
Hello all. It seems that the results for the vote on which mech I cast next has been decided.
Leading the pack by a clear margin was the Locust.
Followed closely by the Catapult. The Urbanmech was also a favorite, coming in third and a distant fourth was the Hellhound.
Thanx to all who sent me their thoughts.
Now this brings me to my next topic, in order to get the ball rolling on the casting I need financing. While a certain chunk of my paycheck(against my wife's wishes) goes to this I figure I might as well sell a few of my one-off mechs to help out.
Im selling my Sunder for $150 (Update, Sunder sold 06/05)
the Masakari for $110 (update 06/08 sold)
and the Hunchback for $95
On top of these I still have a few Hollander kits left and they are $70
Drop me an email at scott.murphy@telus.net if you're interested.

Grey Death Legion
Ive been waffling on how to paint my mechs for the longest time but Ive finally figured "why not from my favorite merc unit the Grey Death Legion?"
http://www.sarna.net/wiki/Gray_Death_Legion
The Gray Death Legion has always painted its 'Mechs gray, usually opting for a gray-on-gray camouflage.
Now I grant you My Wolverine isn't strictly adhering to the colour palet but as I was painting him I wanted to try this ridgeline scheme that my associate Simon has been making so popular lately.

Im not sure if I'll keep the Wolvie this way because when my wife saw it she asked why he's wearing someone else's pants.

A quick look
At something I started recently thanx to Tim (the Teacher) Fusco. He mentioned something about how tricky it would be to make a model of the Uziel mech with all its round shapes. So I started.
With the cockpit I made use of some Aves putty sanded to shape. Not bad.
As for the round body parts I basically cut out several layers of oval(oblong?) pieces and laminated them then sanded them till I was happy. I'll eventually cast them to make left and right sides then add detail to mirror each other.
Well thats where it stands right now, more to come.

Thanatos in progress
After my bud Tim sent me a couple pieces of casts of his Thanatos awhile back Ive been meaning to do one for myself. So a couple of weeks ago I got started. I printed up the paper plans at the size I thought a 75 ton mech would be . It was a little larger than the pieces that Tim sent but I remembered he said his first attempt was too small and he had to beef them up. So I did as well.
Hopefully this will be the right size because these torso pieces together look way too beefy.
And of course I have to do mine in my own way so the details will be different than Tim's. I found an image online of a mini with some alternate weapons I thought were pretty cool. The joints are the next step but Ive run out of tube. Time to go the the LHS.
