Simon's Hunchback finally done.

Yup Finally after a year or so I finally got around to painting up Simon's awesome Hunchie. This is the Sherman pattern as I have in the game. Cause y'know, he's tanky.   I wish  I could have gotten another one.

New Urbie in town

Just finished painting this new little bugger with a loadout I run in game. 1 large pulse laser, 1 med pulse and four machine guns to crit the shit outta ya. With a top speed of 104 kph and a couple jump jets, I can get in and out of trouble easily.
Also you may notice a new addition in the back there. A diagnostic station. I had this made for 3d printing based on the console that can be seen in the back of the mech lab in game.
If you  would like one printed see my boy here:    https://www.shapeways.com/product/MCR9HK3EC/mechwarrior-4-mechlab-console-and-railing?li=shareProduct&optionId=61029030
It can be printed in a multitude of scales.

Finally moved into the mech bay.

So hey there. Last post was mooooonnnnnths ago, I was working on details for the Firestarter and Jagermech and I finally got around to painting them. Wanna see?

 Jagermech arriving
 And powers down.

So both got painted as I play them in the game.  I dont remember the name of the pattern on the Firestarter but the Jager is in Fractal. Masking that bugger took awhile.

Details to be had

Hello all. Amidst all the other things Im up to, I took a couple of days to work on a couple mechs I picked up from Thor .
Now these are 3d printed(duh) in abs plastic, like most home based printers, and like always, these prints can be very rough to the touch. They need putty and sanding and primer and sanding to get them at least sort of smooth. There are other tricks for smoothing abs and pla plastics but I havnt used them yet.  Also, occasionally the layers can split. I find a liberal dose of methylene chloride(basically Ambroid pro-weld) and a clamp works wonders for that issue.
Next issue with these printed mech, certain details arent there. I would imagine these missing details are painted on skin for the game meshes which get lost when you are printing the geometry. Just because theres an X on that mech doesnt mean the X will print. SO, that means I have to add an X. Or whatever.
So with these next few pics you can see where Ive adding missing details.
The Firestarter Im building as my Fav in the game, with 7 small pulse lasers. Also to come will be 2 AMS pods on his shoulders.
Here you can see the "bumper rails" that needed to be added. Ive seen others,( Simon) do this using brass but I can weld for shit, so styrene rod for me.
A few tiny Wave option parts come in handy.
Next, my Jagermech. "Boom Stick".  He's packing 2 AC 20's and 2 medium lasers.  I had to carefully remove the  gun barrels that were there, and build 2 new big barrels to better match the in game versions.
And again more detail plates here and there.  Ive run out of styrene rod so I havnt made his bumper rails yet. Then the primer and paint.
Next to get a detail pass, the Crab.
Oh and I painted the girders on my Mech Bay but they came out way too dark. So, off to the LHS to buy more paint!
Thanx for looking guys!

Jenner standing by

Time for bed but before I go, heres a couple of pics.  The Jenner, of course, standing in the big ongoing project which has a few new details.

The girders will eventually be painted the orange color thats everywhere else, also there is a crane arm Im working on. So that will add some more interest. Also crates, munitions and ground crew will also work their way in. Slowly.

Dr. Zeus in the house.

One of Alex Isglesias' better modern re-designs, the Zeus is also one of my all time favs.

Once again, one of Thor's prints. And it needed the usual cleanup, putty and sanding, glue and clamping to fix the splits. And the adding of a bit of detail to the back.
This is Dr. Zeus, equipped with a Gauss, 3 medium lasers and a LRM 15.
He's painted in my units colours (the 5th RCT, Ghost Legion) Blue, black and white or light blue accents (depending  on which squad)
And the mech bay is still progressing.

part deux!

WubMaster! With my sort of close to being done mech bay.

Six medium pulse lasers and a large pulse with a couple of machine guns for back up. One of my fav mechs to play and painted in the Operation Phoenix pattern.
Mech bay is still a work in progress, I want to add more pipe details and some support vehicles.

Been painting!

So like the title says, Ive been painting. Painting mechs, painting Star Wars ships and painting a mech bay.
But only a couple have reached the final weathering stage and are kinda ready to see the light of blog.
So today we get a look at my Urbie, Business Time.
Painted in a fractal, urban camouflage in the game, this little guy is equipped with an AC-10 with 40 shots  and 2 small lasers. And with an XL engine I can get his speed up to 95 kph. He is a quick little harasser . And when I break him out of the stable, I mean business.

I have him on a Death Star tile base I have but it looks so much like the HPG Manifold map terrain I couldnt resist.
More to come.

Aerospace

Hello all. So for the last few weeks Ive been doing a little painting here and there. Nothing to show off cause nothings done really. But Ive been working on a few mechs as well as a few Star Wars ships Ive been ignoring for way too long. My mech bay is primed an soon Ill get to painting that.
But what I wanted to talk about was the slightly ignored subject of the Aerospace fighters in the BT universe. My most favorite being the Corsair.

And for those of you that dont know it was based on the Siren fighter from the Anime Crusher Joe.

These are pics of the 1/100 model thats kinda hard to find these days. The artist straightened the fuselage and gave it a more Battlestar Galactica Viper kind a feel to my eye. This model is just too small for us to build and mod and have sit next to the 1/60 kits that we love. So i had one 3d printed for me.

As you can see Im already doing a few mods to it as it was built with the miniature as the map. I just feel the engine detail wasnt what I wanted. Also Im thinking about adding some extra details here and there and a cockpit and pilot.
But Im also thinking I need more than one, 3 or 5 for a squad. So maybe if there are a few out there who'd like to have one  maybe Ill get a full cast job done.  If there are any interested parties out there
drop me a line   scott-murphy@shaw.ca  and lets see what happens.

Little side project

I started this last weekend. I was looking at my mechs and I want something cool to display them on or just to take pics against and a mech bay was the obvious choice.
What Im doing here  is kind of an amalgam of several images found by googling mech bay. Lots bring up  the  MWO images and of course thats a prime right there, but there are a few other elements Id like to add. Like some ground crew, maybe a crane.
Also, I started to plan this as a six foot long shelf diorama but realized Id didnt have nearly enough plastic to tackle that, so I scaled back to 2 feet....and Ive run out of tube. Now I have to wait til the weekend to get to the LHS.

And now back to the MWO Atlas

Like I could stay away from this. Ive been wanting to build him for so long.
So straight to it. After the washing, flash cleaning and sanding here and there Im starting with the heads.
I have 2 copies but Im going to focus on the Founder's variant head. But first a little reminder that for the Standard head you need to add a couple layers of styrene to the channel to raise the height for it. If you are building the Founders variant it will sit just fine. There are 2 little angled bits that look like thumbs, they were removed from the head to ease the casting nightmare but they sit here.
Down to the feet.  Ankle shields fit here.
On the arms you can put either the PPCs or Large Lasers.

Ill be using the PPCs for this guy. Im saving the L lasers for the other one which Ill make into a Boar's Head.
K. Now the hips and all those little shield bits. Center these ones here.

Front bits here.
Ass bits here.
The back has layers. I start by sitting the torso flat and just center the bottom piece here.
Now turn the torso on its side to guide the placement of this piece. Flush to the top. And repeat on the other side.

Now the center mass is where I ran into a problem. Once I got it in it seemed to sit higher than its supposed to. I dont know why this happened. I guess I screwd up here.
Anyway its a simple fix. Add a layer of styrene.
 And trim off the excess.

Final bits to the back, the big heat sinks. Again making sure they are flush to the top.

That means you can now add the shoulder tops. As you can see, you must place it right to the edge of the corner. Id add little  colored arrows to point it out better but I dont know how.
The rest of the arms go together thus

Now the side torso bits I admit I could have done a better job and added placement makers so just make note here. This side is easy. Flush to the edge and leave a 1/16 inch space to back edge.
Replicate on the other side best you can. Again sorry for that lack placement marker.

.But once you have that the SRM6 fits right under.
And add the little bit under the SRM6
Now the torso again with the LRM 20. And opposite whatever-you-call-it-bit. They butt right up to the shoulder  round edge.

And of course the legs.
Knee joints, and add the flat shield to the outside of the legs. Round bit goes on the inside. And Hip pieces are self explanatory I think. And I think that about does it.
Except for the AC20 which Ill apply later. Damn this guys is big and heavy, all that resin. Im going to drill and pin a few places I think.
And a pic with the King Crab and Urbie. Id be shitting bricks in the game if I came face to face against all that firepower.
