Progress is progressing

Hello all! Ive not disappeared, merely done with the move but the unpacking is still ongoing.
If any of you have sent me emails  and gotten them bounced back its because Ive had to change service providers. Telus doesnt like me here so Im going with Shaw again. As soon as Ive gotten a new email addy Ill post it here. In the meantime feel free to yell at me here.
Thanx all.

MCII part 2

So, next I decided on a pose for the legs. Nothing overly dramatic, just a wider stance, looking ready for action. All joints pinned of course, including the toes for strength.

Then on to the LRM pods.
I liked Tims LRM  10 design but I wanted 20's so I sawed off the protrusions and glued on new ones.
For me an assault mech just needs LRM 20's.
And as you can see I continued with the magnets theme.

They hold the pods on fairly well but the weight makes them rotate down  a little. They dont go far though because of the "X" panel on the side. It stops the pod from going too far down.
The only other details I felt like adding were a little button piece on the inside of the guns
and these "handle bar/ bumper rails" on the butt piece which was a little too bare for me.

And so assembly completed. This beast looks mean. So much more than the original MadCat.
Look at how it towers over the Raven.
Next primer and paint. Im thinking some kind of Urban Camo scheme.

Thanx Tim, this was a joy to put together and your best yet!

Starting Tim's MadCat II

Just like many of you my MadCat got here last week and when I get a new kit all thoughts dribble out and all I can think about is starting work on a beautiful new chunk of resin.

I havnt worked out a pose for the legs yet but one thing I wanted to do is make the torso and arms poseable. Now I can do this the traditional way and drill in holes and mount tube styrene to accept each other but I wanted to use magnets this time.

Ive done it before a couple of times and I felt this would be more fun to do.
First the groin and torso. Straightforward, find the center, drill a pilot hole, then a larger bore out so I can glue in a couple of strong earth magnets.

Coupled with the friction from the thin locator joint Tim added this holds it very well.
And as you can see Im leaving off the cockpit for now to ease painting later. Figure it will be tricky with the roof on.

Next the guns.

First, Im going to drill out and pin the stalks with 1/8 brass tube. Just cause I wanted to really strengthen the joint,  and I pound them deep in. I want a little room for the magnet to get in there.

I didnt worry about the tube not being in deep enough, brass is soft enough that my drill bit made short work of it ..... pun not intended.

Once it glued in I then made sure (and I should have mentioned earlier) that you test the mating magnet and mark the face so you dont screw up which side is facing out. Otherwise they repel each other and of course that not what I want.

I carefully bored out the guns joint and glued in another magnet.
Again, coupled with the existing joints friction, these magnets  are very strong and hold the guns in place nicely and allow them to rotate easily.

This is going to be such a cool mech on my shelf.
Next the LRM pods.

Hellspawn ready

So Im pretty happy with my take on the 45 ton Hellspawn. Its ready to go to the casters and Im now  taking pre-sale orders to get the ball rolling.
The cost will be $75 plus $20 for shipping to the US. Overseas I have to charge $35 for shipping. I need 10 pre-sale orders to get this going. If this sells  over 20 kits I'll be able to run the Atlas.

Please paypal me using    scott-murphy@shaw.ca         include a note about the Hellspawn.
Ill hold the payments there in case we dont get to the required number to start the run. If it falls short Ill refund the full amount.
Thanx for your support all.

Update:June 15th and we're at 7. This is much slower than I hoped but we're getting there.

Misery is getting there.

I managed to fix my airbrush finally and put the last bit of paint on. Here are a couple of quick shots of the finished beast.
Id like to take some better shots in the daylight.

no painting for me

my airbrush is being a little bitch and the painting of a couple of stalkers has grounded to a halt.
Id like to show how the Misery looks but until i can finish it i want to wait for the reveal.

Scars

For the Misery, the body needs scars. Laser burns, AC strikes and general damage that comes from combat.
So Ive started with drilling in a whole bunch of holes.

But this looks too uniform and perfect to me, the holes to neat and tidy.
So Im going to try to mess the holes up with putty.
By dabbing it on with my finger instead of spreading I get an imperfect splotchy covering that doesnt fill the holes.

I'll add a  few more splotches of putty
and more primer and I should get the laser melted armor look Im after.

A link for you

So Ive got the permission from the guy who printed the Stalker and Cicada for me.
Have a look, drop a line and see what he can do for you.

A little Misery

Yup, I decided to mod this Tyrannosaurus looking bastard into a Misery by adding the Gauss and large laser under the chin. Simple but so much flavour.

The next step will be so  much trickier. Scaring up the body with the pockmarked armor that is the Misery's signature look.

While Im working on the Assault I also started on Bug Boy here.
From the same source and goes together easy.

Id love to get another one and make an X-5 version.

The Creeper

Not its real name..
But recently acquired from an individual I cant name until Im sure he wants the attention.....
This big guy was "grown" by rapid prototyping. And its rough. Its pvc plastic and its layering is definitely not as fine as you would get from a place like Shapeways but I can work with it. I mean Ive worked with a kit or two with worse.

So here you can see the main body with the groin.
If you look close you can see the layering effect clearly. This is after a while of adding Tamiya Putty and sanding. Then a blast of primer and more sanding and the roughness is diminished,
I wont get it totally smooth and Im cool with that.

I hadnt touched the foot yet so you can see the layers better here. There are so many facets Ill never get them  all perfect but perfection is not my goal.

And the bottom of the foot is where you can really get an idea of just how this printer lays down the pvc to get a solid shape.

The pod is coming along. After more sanding  and another coat of primer the paint job should hide any imperfections. I may replace the laser lenses for a better effect.
And yes the pod doors open. A very nice touch.

The Arachnid

So this little box of joy arrived containing, well, you know.
The parts

A quick put together
Terrible shot, I know.
But after a de-grease and priming

90% of it is being held together by friction but I used  a shot of hot glue on the hips to hold the legs in place, and of course my third hand to hold it in place.
Its a little smaller than I wanted it but its still bigger than whats in the game but it still looks pretty good as a 30 ton mech next to a 35 tonner.
I should mention that 4 machine guns will be included and 4 flamers(2 for each arm as an option) as well as 2 torso lasers.

And with the 50 ton Hunchback.
Ive heard from my caster and we have a price worked out.
In order to run this kit I have to pre-sell 15 kits at $100 each plus shipping.
I know that a little steeper than normal for a kit this size but Ive had to fork out quite a bit to have the cg files cleaned and printed.
email me if interested.

This kit has been put on hold.
