Soooo, like back in 2011 I had started work on the Mon Remonda
http://scott-messydesk.blogspot.ca/2011/06/mon-remonda-in-12256.html
and then I quietly put it aside. Mainly because I wasnt really sure how I wanted to do the engines. That may have changed, we will see soon.
But another thing that was bugging me was the blisters on the hull. I had added a bunch of little, rolled Aves bits and bomb halves but they looked like crap so I scraped them all off.
Then along comes
nicholassagan

and his shapeways bits to save my sanity. Basically these are blister bits he designed to add to the discontinued MC-80 kit from Anigrand. Well I bought a set then molded them and have made like a hundred blisters to attach to the hull of my Mon Remonda.
Still many more to go, but its looking so much better. I need more small bits.

time to re-visit
So hey, a few years back I got started on a little project
http://scott-messydesk.blogspot.ca/2011/01/freighter-part-deux.html
a new style Correlian freighter type ship.
And as usual I got sidetracked but its been sitting on the shelf ever since I while I still havnt decided on many key details I figured if I at least got back to it something will come to me.
So here we go with the cockpit and armor plating.
The cockpit I was thinking of a 3 seater layout with 1 pilot front center and 2 behind. I used a few bits from my FMMF cockpit I wasnt using.
I ended up with some plating that was much bigger than the style on the Falcon, i just really wanted it to highlight the overall pattern of the hull layout you know?
And now the underside layout. Im going to do this gear up on a cool base.
Oh and one final thing Im toying with, rather than cakeing the side wall with greeblies Im thinking maybe a bunch of these box bits Ive made up with a few greeblies and wires between. Cool thing here is I can cast them and change the details so no 2 look alike.
What do you think?

So.. a little update for anyone that still comes here
Hey all, just wanted to say that the Hellspawn is finally in good hands. Jimi at JPG Productions.
I should have just sent it to him to begin with. So hopefully 4 or 5 weeks before kits are in hand.
Meanwhile Ive been getting myself back into the knife to plastic groove. But I wanted to tackle something easy. Boxy, basic. Something that I didnt need to strive for accuracy with. So I chose one of the most boring and uninteresting ships from the StarWars universe. Boba Fett's Slave 2.
Heres some pics from the comics....
See, boring and uninspired.
Here's my attempt at a 1/72 version.
No paint on it yet but basic assembly is done and I think Ive managed to give this lame design at least a semblance of belonging to SW.
Now, Ive got the build bug again.

Progress is progressing
Hello all! Ive not disappeared, merely done with the move but the unpacking is still ongoing.
If any of you have sent me emails and gotten them bounced back its because Ive had to change service providers. Telus doesnt like me here so Im going with Shaw again. As soon as Ive gotten a new email addy Ill post it here. In the meantime feel free to yell at me here.
Thanx all.

MCII part 2
So, next I decided on a pose for the legs. Nothing overly dramatic, just a wider stance, looking ready for action. All joints pinned of course, including the toes for strength.
Then on to the LRM pods.
I liked Tims LRM 10 design but I wanted 20's so I sawed off the protrusions and glued on new ones.
For me an assault mech just needs LRM 20's.
And as you can see I continued with the magnets theme.
They hold the pods on fairly well but the weight makes them rotate down a little. They dont go far though because of the "X" panel on the side. It stops the pod from going too far down.
The only other details I felt like adding were a little button piece on the inside of the guns
and these "handle bar/ bumper rails" on the butt piece which was a little too bare for me.
And so assembly completed. This beast looks mean. So much more than the original MadCat.
Look at how it towers over the Raven.
Next primer and paint. Im thinking some kind of Urban Camo scheme.
Thanx Tim, this was a joy to put together and your best yet!

Starting Tim's MadCat II
Just like many of you my MadCat got here last week and when I get a new kit all thoughts dribble out and all I can think about is starting work on a beautiful new chunk of resin.
I havnt worked out a pose for the legs yet but one thing I wanted to do is make the torso and arms poseable. Now I can do this the traditional way and drill in holes and mount tube styrene to accept each other but I wanted to use magnets this time.
Ive done it before a couple of times and I felt this would be more fun to do.
First the groin and torso. Straightforward, find the center, drill a pilot hole, then a larger bore out so I can glue in a couple of strong earth magnets.
Coupled with the friction from the thin locator joint Tim added this holds it very well.
And as you can see Im leaving off the cockpit for now to ease painting later. Figure it will be tricky with the roof on.
Next the guns.
First, Im going to drill out and pin the stalks with 1/8 brass tube. Just cause I wanted to really strengthen the joint, and I pound them deep in. I want a little room for the magnet to get in there.
I didnt worry about the tube not being in deep enough, brass is soft enough that my drill bit made short work of it ..... pun not intended.
Once it glued in I then made sure (and I should have mentioned earlier) that you test the mating magnet and mark the face so you dont screw up which side is facing out. Otherwise they repel each other and of course that not what I want.
I carefully bored out the guns joint and glued in another magnet.
Again, coupled with the existing joints friction, these magnets are very strong and hold the guns in place nicely and allow them to rotate easily.
This is going to be such a cool mech on my shelf.

Hellspawn ready
So Im pretty happy with my take on the 45 ton Hellspawn. Its ready to go to the casters and Im now taking pre-sale orders to get the ball rolling.
The cost will be $75 plus $20 for shipping to the US. Overseas I have to charge $35 for shipping. I need 10 pre-sale orders to get this going. If this sells over 20 kits I'll be able to run the Atlas.
Please paypal me using scott-murphy@shaw.ca include a note about the Hellspawn.
Ill hold the payments there in case we dont get to the required number to start the run. If it falls short Ill refund the full amount.
Thanx for your support all.
Update:June 15th and we're at 7. This is much slower than I hoped but we're getting there.
